Money for Good: A report on impact investing

Hope Consulting has issued a report on the potential marketplace for social impact investments. It’s a worthwhile read for investors, philanthropists, and nonprofits alike. (Thank you to Tactical Philanthropy for their post on this report.)

Beyond the report and from an investment point of view, creation of an actual “marketplace” for impact investments has the potential to bring about a host of benefits:

  • New sub-asset class with relatively low correlation to standard equity and bond markets.
  • Greater scale to the developing social investment category.
  • More standardization in impact investment valuation, reporting, and evaluation.
  • Greater access to capital for social impact companies/nonprofits, thereby reducing the cost of capital.

Is it time for an impact investment marketplace? Is it scaleable? What are you ideas?
